The Water Utility was created approximately 100 years ago. In 2002, the Utility will employ an Operations Manager, Assistant Manager/Accountant, Water Operator, a Meter Technician, an Assistant Meter Technician/Ground Man and two Office Staff. All of these employees, with the exception of the Water Operator, also work part-time for the Electric Utility. The Water Department office is located at 65 East Twelfth Street. The Utility maintains water mains, laterals, hydrants, wells, and two water towers. The Utility owns over 182,815 feet of water mains, 2,336 service laterals which serve over 1,968 customers and provide public fire protection. The system has 262 fire hydrants and there are 777 distribution valves. There are six wells which are located throughout the City. Two of the wells are equipped with auxiliary power in the event of a disaster. The system pumps approximately 450,000 gallons per day or 164,416,000 per year. In 1997, the Utility constructed a new water tower on County Trunk Highway I. This tower is 157 feet tall and holds 400,000 gallons. Currently this tower provides all of the system requirements. One of the main reasons for the new tower was to provide improved water service on the south of the City and allow new development on U.S. Highway 45 toward the south. The second tower on Harriet Street, was built in 1937 and holds 250,000 gallons. The Water Utility in responsible for all billing and collections for the Water, Electric and Sewer Utilities.
Flushing hydrants Water hydrants are flushed twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. When the flushing takes place it brings up old sediment which is orange in color out of the system. This orange color in the water will not hurt you. But it can stain your clothes if you are doing laundry. Radio announcements as well as newspaper ads are run right before the flushing starts. CCR report The consumer confidence report is an annual report that explains what is in the water and how much was found in our water. The tests results are from the DNR. This report is available to everyone. It is due July 1, of each year. Billing Clintonville utilities serves the city of Clintonville and some customers just outside city limits.
