2010 Clintonville Youth Soccer League

Parent Information Sheet

We are happy to have your son(s) and/or daughter(s) in our youth soccer league for the upcoming season.  Please read this sheet carefully as there is a lot of very important information included here.  If you have any questions please call the Park and Recreation Department at 823-7660.

The age for participation in the league is at least age 5 and no older than age 14 by Sept. 1.  Please be advised any player who intends to participate on the high school(Junior Varsity or Varsity) team would be in violation of WIAA rules(jeopardizing their eligibility to compete as a member of the high school team), if he/she participates in the city youth soccer league.

This past year the league was organized with the following age divisions: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-14.  The department reserves the right to adjust the age groups as it deems necessary to organize the league in an efficient and effective manner.

Team Organization/Placement:  The teams are formed based on the following criteria -  player ability rankings as determined by the previous year's team coaches,  by ages, and by the split between boys and girls.  Each team is formed to have as equal a number of all abilities, ages, and boys/girls as is possible.

Players are not automatically kept on the same team they were on the previous year.

If your child needs a special team placement for the following reasons, make sure it is indicated on their registration form.  These reasons are:

-child of a team coach  - make sure you indicate the coach's name;  must be in proper age group

-Note: children of only two different coaches will be assigned to the same team

-sibling - make sure you list the sibling(s) name(s); they must be in the same age group

(Please be sure to list any medical concerns for your child(ren) on the registration form - this information will only be provided to the coach of your child's team)

Despite the above, the department does not make any absolute guarantee for a specific placement of any player.

Practices:  Practice days and times are set by the coaches.  Requests for specific practice days and/or times cannot be honored as part of the team organization process.  Once you know the name of the coach of your child's team contact him/her to discuss your concerns.

Fees:  The fee you pay includes the cost of one t-shirt.  Order the t-shirt large enough to fit over another t-shirt/sweatshirt since the league plays during the colder months of September and October. You can purchase additional shirts at a cost of $7 each. Please do so on the original registration form for your child.

You can also purchase an adult/parent/coach shirt at a cost of $7.  This shirt does not have a player number on it but does have the Clintonville Area Youth League Soccer logo on it.  Order these shirts on a separate form available at City Hall.

If everything works out right the shirts will be distributed prior to the beginning of league play.

Insurance:  The Clintonville Area Youth Soccer League and Clintonville Park and Recreation Department do not provide or cover any medical or hospital costs for participants in the program.  All persons participating must provide their own medical coverage.

Schedule:  Games are played Saturdays at the four soccer fields in the south end of Bucholtz Park.    Tentative dates for this year’s league season are as follows: 3 practice weeks – August 23-Sept. 10, games for six  Saturdays September 11 to October 16 and a tournament Saturday October 23.

The High School Soccer Booster Club plans to have a concession stand operate throughout the day as the games begin at 8:00 am and end around 2:00 pm.  Barring severe storms with thunder and lightening the games are played as scheduled.

Required Equipment:  In addition to the team shirt, players are required to wear shin guards.   If the shin guards are not padded, the player must wear a stocking over the shin guard that completely covers it.  Soccer shoes are not required, but strongly recommended.  Make sure the cleated shoe your child may wear is truly a soccer shoe and not a baseball shoe.  A simple way to tell the difference is as follows:  a baseball shoe generally has a cleat on the middle of the sole at the tip of the shoe; a soccer shoe does not.  If your child does not wear soccer shoes he/she should wear tennis shoes.

First aid supplies are provided to each coach for use as needed.  We encourage each player to bring water or another beverage with them to their practices and games.  The outside  bubbler at the restrooms will remain available as long as weather permits.

We hope you and the rest of your family will be able to attend your child(ren)'s games, realizing that it is not always possible.  Please be supportive when you are attending the games.  The Clintonville Area Youth Soccer League is a recreational league.  Our goal first and foremost is for the kids to have fun.  Obviously we also have the goals of fitness and exercise, teamwork and skill improvement in the game of soccer.  The league and department will deal sternly with

unsportsmanlike conduct whether exhibited by a player, coach or fan.

The Youth Soccer Board has adopted the following Goals Statement and each parent will be asked on their behalf as well as on the behalf of their child(ren) to sign a statement indicating they will promote these goals.  They are:

Promote:           - Good sportsmanship and fair play.

- Respect for the officials and rules.

- Applauding the efforts of all players and coaches

Each Saturday of play one or more of the soccer board members will be available at the fields.  They will be wearing a special t-shirt with the youth soccer logo on it for easier identification.  You can contact this person in the event something is occurring at the fields that needs to be addressed.  Coaches and referees are expected to control the conduct of the games, including the conduct of the players.

We ask that you not bring your dog to the fields.  In the past there have been some problems with dogs running onto the fields during games, as well as problems with some dogs not being well behaved.

We also ask that you refrain from smoking at the soccer field complex.  We want to offer an environment that is healthy and positive for the players as well as the fans.

Also, we would ask your assistance in keeping the fields in good shape.  Please use the garbage and recycling containers placed at the fields, and encourage your family members to do the same.

One significant change we made last year is that all fields now have a player/team side and  a spectator side.  We ask that you honor this as spectators and remain on the designated spectator side.

Between two hundred fifty and three hundred area youth participate in our youth soccer program each year.  Although the league operates under the umbrella of the Park and Recreation Department, its success clearly depends on the many local persons who volunteer to coach, to serve on the board, to run the concession stand, etc.  If you are willing to help out in anyway please contact the department.  For prospective coaches we have a variety of coaching aids and resources, plus can direct you to where a variety of other resources can be found.
