Events

The Park & Recreation Department offers a variety of events that are held throughout the year.

Easter Egg Hunt - The annual City Easter Egg Hunt is held on the Saturday before Easter at Bucholtz Park for children age 10 and under. Up to 1000 plastic eggs are hidden for the kids to find. Each egg when turned in is good for a special prize. The Easter Bunny also makes a special appearance.

The Easter Egg Hunt is a totally volunteer operation, coordinated by the Park & Recreation Department, which is always looking for cash & item donations for prizes as well as volunteers to prepare for the hunt and work the day of the event.

Kite Flying Contest - Every year on the last Saturday of April, a kite flying contest is held, at Bucholtz Park, for people of all ages. There is no cost to participate. It's lots of fun for everyone.

July 4th Celebration - The annual 4th of July celebration, generally held on the 3rd, is held in the W.A. Olen Athletic Field and is sponsored by the Clintonville Athletics with the help of the community. A fireworks display show is set off at dusk. Festivities preceding the fireworks include music and a raffle. Refreshments are available and there is no admission charge.

Fireman's Festival - The annual Fireman's Festival is normally held on the 2nd Saturday in August. The day is filled with many fun activities including a grand parade during the morning on Main Street. The afternoon is filled with fun and games, along with food and refreshments, for both adults and children at the W.A. Olen Park enclosed shelter. The afternoon's events include water fights and a large raffle.

Winter Whirl - The City's winter festival is held each year on the last weekend of January. A variety of indoor and outdoor events are held, including the Tummy Warmer chili and chicken soup cook off, pie and ice cream social, craft fair, pancake and porkie breakfast, teen dance, ice skating races, Super sundae, snowman building contest, family bowling and pizza night, and a prize raffle.

Used Skate and Ski Equipment Sale - Each December and January the department runs a used skate and ski equipment sale. People with items for sale, including figure and hockey skates, cross country and downhill ski equipment, snowboards and miscellaneous other winter sports equipment, provide them to the department on a consignment basis. This is a great opportunity to obtain these types of winter sports equipment at extremely reasonable prices.

Arbor Day Ceremony - The City celebrates Arbor Day each year on the last Friday of April with a formal ceremony, including the planting of a tree and a short program by a local school group.
