The Electric Utility is approximately 100 years old.  In 2002 the employees will include full time Operations Manager, Assistant Manager/Accountant, Lead Lineman, Lineman, two Lineman Apprentices, Meter Technician, an Assistant Meter Technician/Ground man (new Position) and two Office Staff.  All of these employees, with the exception of the four linemen, also work part time for the Water Utility.  Presently, the utility owns three substations, one in the industrial park, one on East Garfield Street and the newest one on East Madison Street.  The peak electric load in 2001 was 17.7 megawatts.  This load is growing at a rate of  about six percent per year.   The Utility maintains twenty-nine miles of line within the City limits and twenty-four miles of line outside of the City.   The City pays the Utility to maintain 689 street lights.   The Utility serves approximately 2,690 customers.  The Utility joined with the Shawano Municipal Utility to create a joint wholesale power purchase group which is called Badger Power Marketing Authority.  Badger Power constructed a new substation in 1999 in the Clintonville North Industrial Park which greatly improved our power delivery service.
