The Park & Recreation Department has a limited ability to assist local citizens with problems and advice in relation to trees, shrubbery and to a lesser degree, flowers.  Generally, if assistance cannot be provided, the person making the inquiry can be directed to a source that can provide assistance.  The department does have a sizeable amount of reference materials relating to trees and shrubs, including their selection and maintenance.

Imagine a world without trees-blowing soil, unprotected farmland, silty, flood prone rivers, sun baked cities, rapid runoff, gullied farmland.  Few of us would like to live in a world without trees.

Clintonville has been recognized as a TREE CITY USA by the National Arbor Day foundation, which is headquartered in Nebraska every year since 1990 with 2009 being the 20th consecutive year.  To be recognized as a TREE CITY USA, a city must meet the following four criteria:

1)    Have an ordinance and a public body in place responsible for urban forestry.

2)    Have an annual Arbor Day proclamation signed by the Mayor.

3)    Hold an annual Arbor Day tree planting ceremony.

4)    Annually submit an urban forestry work plan and spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry activities.

Every year the department works with a local school on a tree education effort.  Interested?  Call!!!!

For assistance, please call the Park & Recreation Director, Dick Writt at (715) 823-7660.

Street Trees

The City operates a limited community forestry program that oversees the cities diverse street tree population.  Street trees are those planted on the terrace or boulevard, the area between the sidewalk and curb, or in the absence of a terrace those trees planted on the street right of way adjacent to private property

A permit is required to plant, remove or perform significant pruning of any street tree.  This permit, at no charge, is available from the Park and Recreation Director, 55 E. 12th St., phone 823-7660.

Deteriorated street trees are removed by the City on a regular basis at no cost to the adjacent property owner.  Any concerns about deteriorated street trees should be directed to the Park and Recreation Director.
